It was brilliant to be at the brand new Midland Met today, and hear from the heroic team that delivered this new hospital - which was first proposed by the last Labour government!
People in Sandwell deserve the best, most advanced healthcare and that is what this hospital is about. Given the Black Country health system is the second most deprived in the country, I hope all the modernity and ambition of Midland Met will make a big difference to our health outcomes.
I’ve been in close contact with the leaders of the NHS trust about the transition of the A&E from Sandwell to Midland Met, which will happen when the new hospital formally opens. An urgent treatment centre will still be at Sandwell for things like sprains and breaks.
This is a really important moment for our area and I am committed to supporting the community with the change.
